About the Role

HPA is recruiting for a major Romanian agricultural company specialising in the cultivation and marketing of fresh fruit. The successful candidate will oversee the farm’s daily operations, ensuring crops are managed efficiently from planting through harvesting, packaging, and storage. This position requires strong organisational skills, technical horticultural knowledge, and the ability to lead both permanent and seasonal teams.

Key Responsibilities

The Horticultural Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Planning and implementing the annual agricultural work schedule.
  • Managing pruning, fertilisation, crop maintenance, and phytosanitary treatments.
  • Monitoring plant health and identifying diseases, pests, or nutritional deficiencies.
  • Developing preventive and corrective plant protection measures.
  • Supervising irrigation and fertigation systems to optimise crop growth.
  • Organising harvesting, sorting, packaging, and storage operations.
  • Ensuring compliance with fresh fruit quality standards.
  • Leading permanent employees and seasonal workers, particularly during harvest periods.
  • Supporting the recruitment, training, and performance evaluation of farm staff.
  • Managing inventory of fertilisers, crop protection products, packaging materials, and farming supplies.
  • Maintaining treatment records, production documentation, and employee timesheets.
  • Monitoring production costs and ensuring operations remain within budget.
  • Preparing regular reports on crop performance, production levels, quality, and operational costs.
  • Collaborating with suppliers, agricultural consultants, and external business partners.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related agricultural discipline.
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience in a similar position, preferably on a fruit farm.
  • Strong understanding of crop production technologies.
  • Knowledge of fertilisation, irrigation, fertigation, and plant protection practices.
  • Experience managing permanent and seasonal agricultural teams.
  • Budget planning and operational cost management experience.
  • Excellent organisational and planning abilities.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Results-oriented mindset with a focus on quality and operational efficiency.
  • Willingness to work primarily on the farm.
  • Valid Category B driving licence.
